While reading our weekly poems it sparked a very interesting idea of finding meaning within life, not only for the sake of living a purpose driven life but also to satisfy your soul to the point that when death found its way to you, you could die knowing that your soul could live on happily. While Sonnet 146 focused on a heavy amount of spiritual searching to please yourself, Ozymandias had a much more worldly focus, aiming at having physical tokens to represent you after your death, both were very interesting but on opposite ends of the spectrum, my goal with this was to find a happy medium that I could talk elements of both ideas to create something that would resonate heavily with me. We also began out Critical theory groups, while we only have just scratched the surface of the work we will do on this topic we still have had some very interesting epiffanies on our topic, gender and the influence it can have on a story, I feel this is a very strong and compelling topic as it has a lot of current issues hidden within it as well, hopefully we can properly formulate the immense amount of knowledge we can share on this. But as I previously stated we have only just begun so there is much to be done, but I look forward to it, I think my group is very hard working and open-minded, so we will really be able to flow creatively and be open about each of our thought processes.

This week in class we really just talked on how the independent reading would work for the duration of this trimester and what we would have to do with the information obtained. Once we learned this we began to theory craft our ideas and topic which we would present and the two books that would help to correspond well with your two ideas. The two books that I chose were 1984 and The Sirens of Titan both of these books take a look at the key ideas and values that can be found within a dystopia but both add sort of their own flare to the concept which I was hoping would broaden my perspective. 1984 looks at a dystopia as if the government had complete control over everything, adding the perspective of modern day commerce and how it could be affected and how it would affect the choices that citizens made knowing the circumstance of their living. The Sirens of Titan is a bit more philosophical of a novel, it looks into a dystopia but rather talks more in depth on the ideals that the society carries with it, it discusses how one can find meaning within their life and find a purpose driven living. This is something I saw to be quite complex because people outside of a dystopia have trouble defining their purpose, so thinking about doing that in the middle of a society with poorly placed values is quite intriguing. I look forward to both of these reads.
