This week we began by going over a poem entitled, The Eagle, by Lord Tennyson It was really amazing to see all the different ideas and meanings people could pull from such a little amount of writing, it really spoke volumes to how powerful writing can really be, no matter the length. I really value getting to hear others interpretation of something, it actually kind of gives me a broader horizon of thought. It is valuable to be able to hear and talk about the different sort of interpretations and why people think the way they do. On that note we also began our group essays which in my own opinion actually relates to the poem interpretations pretty heavily in that, it’s important to understand how each member of your group looked at the book, it adds a lot of value to the writing and also to every reader, as it adds perspective which is imperative to a good piece of writing. Something I find that is valuable is also the ability to get help from your group, a basic example of this is, if you don’t understand something fully, or if you are struggling to interpret a certain line of writing, your group will give you their ideas and sort of how they reached that point. My understanding of the summer reading books has actually increased due to the help of my group and our shared thought process.
